The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) is pleased to announce that it is officially a regional partner of Health Level Seven International (HL7) beginning on May 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025.
AeHIN will bring more activities to help build capacity and demonstrate the adoption of standards and interoperability in the region, and further enable AeHIN members to locally advance HL7’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
Prior to the signed agreement, AeHIN has been championing the use of standards, including HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). In 2022 and 2023, AeHIN, through a grant from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, supported its members in completing the FHIR Fundamentals Course and getting their FHIR (R4) Proficiency Training Program certification. Also, in 2023, the Standards and Interoperability Lab Thailand (SIL-TH), an exemplar lab of the AeHIN Community of Interoperability Labs (COIL), conducted a training course on FHIR.
At the 2023 AeHIN General Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, Diego Kaminker mentioned the plan to create a regional affiliate in Asia through a partnership with AeHIN to build local capacity for FHIR in training and enable countries to implement FHIR solutions.
The COIL, one of the special interest groups of AeHIN, will form the advisory role for the HL7-AeHIN partnership and craft activities that will strengthen HL7 capacity building in the region.
Dr. Alvin Marcelo, one of the directors at AeHIN, mentioned that AeHIN and HL7 are exploring a partnership that will enable mutual benefits toward our respective goals of achieving regional interoperability. AeHIN member countries are encouraged to explore partnering with HL7 directly as well for possible national arrangements.
AeHIN is a collaboration of digital health advocates from South and Southeast Asia committed to promoting interoperability for better health. AeHIN promotes learning, resource sharing, and knowledge exchange to strengthen digital health capacities through the networking approach.
HL7 is a member-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining standards that bridge the gap in healthcare technology. Our goal is to improve the accessibility, speed, safety, security, quality, and cost of the electronic health information exchange.
