Udayasankaran shares AeHIN’s experiences and insights on digital health capacity development during the Exemplars in Global Digital Health Session
Geneva, Switzerland–The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) participated in the second edition of the Geneva Digital Health Day (GDHD) organized by the Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub) and its partners on May 22, 2025, on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA).
AeHIN Executive Director Jai Ganesh Udayasankaran represented the network and spoke at a panel and a workshop. The Exemplars in Global Digital Health session focused on digital health programs successfully scaled at a national level, where speakers shared key lessons on implementation, sustainability, and impact. In one of its panels, ‘Collaborating for Impact: Strategic Alliance for ICT Competency in Health (STICH)‘, Udayasankaran discussed AeHIN’s digital health capacity development roadmap based on leadership, institutional readiness, scalability, interoperability, universality, sustainability, evaluation, and strategic reuse as principles of practice. Explaining AeHIN’s capacity building efforts in the region, Udayasankaran emphasized the importance of partnerships and collaboration towards co-creation, delivery, and maintenance of content. He pointed out the variability of capacity among countries, relevance of investments and support from the national ecosystem towards the localization needs for sustainability in the long term, especially given that capacity building is a continuous process. Highlighting the need for modular design, interoperability among training programs, and accreditation, he hoped that the STICH would take these into consideration.

Udayasankaran discusses AeHIN’s convergence approach during the workshop.
Udayasankaran also participated in the workshop ‘Exploring Innovative Partnership Models for Scaling Up Digital Health Transformation in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.’ As part of the discussion on private sector engagement in national digital health programs, he shared the relevance of AeHIN’s Convergence approach for multisectoral alignment and the utility of regulatory sandboxes in balancing innovations from new emerging technologies and regulatory oversight with the workshop participants. He mentioned that regulatory sandboxes could be a means for the private sector to engage with the regulators and test their products within a safe environment.
