The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) launched the second cohort of the HL7-AeHIN FHIR Fundamentals Training on February 26, 2026, continuing its efforts to strengthen digital health interoperability capacity across Asia and the Pacific. Following the success of the first regional cohort organized in 2025, the AeHIN and HL7, through its regional partnership, remain committed to support health professionals in learning HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), the global standard for exchanging healthcare data.

With 96 participants from 15 countries, the second training cohort reflects strong regional interest in building technical knowledge of health data standards.

The training is delivered as a fully self-paced course through the HL7 e-learning platform, allowing participants to learn using the official HL7 materials and complete assessments based on their schedule. Participants who successfully complete the course and assessments will receive an official certificate from HL7 International.

Dr. Boonchai Kijsanayotin, Chair of AeHIN, noted that strengthening regional capacity in standards such as HL7 FHIR is an important step toward building more interoperable digital health systems. He emphasized that such training can help equip professionals across the region with the knowledge needed to support national and regional digital health development.

Moving forward, AeHIN plans to organize two HL7 FHIR Fundamentals cohorts each year to sustain capacity-building efforts on interoperability standards in the region. AeHIN is also exploring the introduction of more advanced training opportunities, such as HL7 FHIR Intermediate courses, to support participants who wish to further develop their technical skills and move toward practical FHIR implementation.
