The HL7-AeHIN FHIR Fundamentals Course (February 2026 AeHIN Edition), organized under the regional collaboration between AeHIN and HL7 International regional agreement, successfully concluded in May 2026. The course provided participants with foundational knowledge of HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), a widely adopted standard for health information exchange and interoperability.
A total of 97 participants from 16 countries enrolled in the course, demonstrating growing interest in health information interoperability across Asia and the Pacific. The cohort attracted strong participation from Thailand, Nepal, Mongolia, and Indonesia, while several Pacific Island countries were also represented, reflecting its regional diversity.
The course covered key topics including FHIR fundamentals, RESTful APIs, interoperability paradigms, and profiling and conformance. Through self-paced learning modules, practical exercises, tutor support, and a live interactive session, participants gained knowledge and skills to better understand and implement FHIR-based solutions.
Participant engagement remained strong throughout the program, with 92 participants actively accessing the course and 71 successfully completing all course requirements. Feedback from participants also highlighted interest in further learning opportunities, particularly more advanced FHIR topics and related health informatics standards. The training was led by Diego Kaminker (HL7) and coordinated by Dr. Alvin Marcelo and PT Intouch Laobandit from AeHIN.
