OpenHIE Academy is a community-supported initiative to build capacity for better health information exchange architecture processes.  To promote a vision of  a strengthened interoperable digital health ecosystem for better health in Asia, Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) aimed to support members with the cost for OpenHIE Academy’s Foundations in Health Information Exchange – Certification Exam (USD 39 per person) in 2023.

The certification exam designates that the certificate holder “understands the basic concepts of interoperability, understands the basic function of health information exchange and the OpenHIE Architecture components, can designate which HIE architecture components are needed to solve a health data exchange challenge, and has a basic understanding of the importance of semantic and syntactic standards.” The members who signed up for the course would be required to complete the certification exam within four weeks.

Participation

Forty (40) participants across four batches successfully passed the OpenHIE Foundations certification exam within the specified timeframe and received certification. Table 1 shows that the passers were from a selection of 45 candidates (spread across four batches) out of 155 accumulated applicants over three rounds of calls for participation. Three rounds of calls were organized to maximize, as much as possible, the available number of slots. To fill in the 80 certification exam slots, the AeHIN Governing Committee, with support from Working Council members, reviewed and selected applications.
