Dr. Boonchai Kijsanayotin discussing the use of healthcare data at HSR2024

The Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN) participated in the 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2024) hosted by Health Systems Global (HSG) at the Dejima Messe Conference Center in Nagasaki, Japan, on November 18, 2024.

AeHIN Chair Dr. Boonchai Kijsanayotin presented on the digital health data landscape in Asia during the satellite session “Harnessing the Power of Data and Knowledge for Equitable and High-Performing Health Systems in Asia.”

Dr. Kijsanayotin provided an overview of the current state of health data in the Asia region, emphasizing its role in improving health system performance. He highlighted the challenges associated with digital health data, including data silos, lack of interoperability, and privacy concerns, while stressing the need for strong governance frameworks and regional collaboration to address these issues.

Key points of his presentation included:

  • The unique characteristics of biomedical and real-world health data, including its complexity, heterogeneity, and privacy challenges.
  • The importance of adopting unified data standards to facilitate interoperability and cross-border data sharing.
  • Lessons learned from regional initiatives in leveraging health data for equitable and efficient health systems.

Dr. Kijsanayotin shared how AeHIN helps countries in Asia improve their use of digital health data. He emphasized that by adopting global standards and addressing local challenges, countries can make better use of their health data to improve care and efficiency.

The session allowed experts from across Asia to exchange ideas and discuss practical strategies for using health data to achieve universal health coverage and build stronger health systems. Dr. Kijsanayotin’s involvement highlighted AeHIN’s ongoing efforts to bring people together, share knowledge, and drive meaningful progress in digital health.
