On November 17, 2025, Dr. Alvin B. Marcelo, director and treasurer of the Asia eHealth Information Network, conducted a half-day activity to equip hospital personnel with practical skills to improve data exchange, strengthen digital health governance, and align with emerging national and international requirements.

Dr. Marcelo structured the program using the AeHIN Mind the GAPS framework—highlighting Governance, Architecture, Program Management, and Standards as essential pillars for sustainable and interoperable digital health systems. The session emphasized how hospitals can institutionalize interoperability by building coherent architectures, improving documentation, and strengthening internal processes that support data sharing. Dr. Marcelo also featured the Open Health Information Exchange framework.

To enrich the learning experience, Dr. Marcelo incorporated materials from Dr. Rath Panyowat’s widely recognized online course on FHIR, giving participants exposure to practical examples and global best practices in standards adoption.

The training gathered clinical, technical, and administrative staff of a tertiary care hospital intent on advancing digital-health capability and ensuring readiness for national interoperability initiatives. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises, case discussions, and guided walkthroughs of standards-based workflows, including terminology.
