The United Nations University Institute for Global Health (UNU-IGH), together with the Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN), co-organized the pre-conference workshop, “Governing the Digital Transformation in Health Systems,” at the Global Health Security Conference 2026 on June 8, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The event brought together representatives from government, academia, and civil society to discuss governance challenges in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies into health systems, including concerns on ethics, regulations, data protection, and health data governance, particularly in ASEAN countries.

AeHIN Executive Director Jai Ganesh Udayasankaran discussed AeHIN’s regional experiences and insights based on the foundational areas of the AeHIN Mind the GAPS, Fill the GAPS framework and convergence approach, aimed to help countries strengthen their digital health governance as they plan and implement their national digital health strategies. He further presented on convergence workshops and the World Bank’s digital health blueprint toolkit, including scenarios where countries can leverage them to develop, review and update their national digital health strategies with a costed blueprint for implementation.
